Privacy Policy & Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: 14 March 2026

Who I am

Cheaper Tech is run by me, Marcus Bell, from Manchester, UK. This is a one-person site — when your data is "processed", that's me reading an email or a stats dashboard, not a team in an office. Questions about this page: marcus@cheaper-tech.com.

Amazon Associates disclosure

Plain and simple, as required by the Amazon Associates Programme Operating Agreement: Cheaper Tech is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

What that means for you: some links on this site are affiliate links, mostly to Amazon. If you click one and buy something, I get a small commission (typically 2–4%). The price you pay is identical either way. Affiliate links never determine what I recommend — some of my most-clicked "don't buy this" verdicts carry affiliate links too.

Other affiliate and ad partners

Occasional links to Currys, Lenovo's refurb outlet and one or two smaller UK retailers work the same way. I've never taken money for a favourable review and never will — if that ever changes, this page gets updated within the week.

What data gets collected

  • Server logs. My host keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser, time, page requested) for up to 30 days for security and debugging.
  • Privacy-friendly stats. I use a cookieless analytics tool that doesn't identify individuals. No cross-site tracking, no advertising profiles.
  • Amazon cookies. When you click an affiliate link, Amazon sets its own cookies on their site to track the referral — that's Amazon's shop, Amazon's rules, and their privacy notice applies from the moment you click.
  • Messages you send me. Emails and form submissions are kept until dealt with, then deleted (or kept if needed for accounting — HMRC likes its records).

Cookies on this site

Aside from the affiliate referral handled on Amazon's side, the site sets one cookie if you dismiss the cookie notice, so you don't see it twice. If you'd like to see what a low-cookie-count internet feels like, this is roughly it.

Your rights (UK GDPR / GDPR)

You can ask me for a copy of any personal data I hold about you, ask for corrections, or ask me to delete it — email marcus@cheaper-tech.com and I'll sort it within a week, GDPR willing. You also have the right to complain to the ICO, though honestly it shouldn't come to that for a site this size.

Changes to this page

If I change how the site works in a way that affects your data, I'll update this page and bump the date at the top. Older versions of this policy — there haven't been many — just get replaced; I don't keep an archive, sorry.
